No Mandatory Sentence – Arson – United States of America v. L.B.
The federal government charged L.B. with arson and related charges. Ms. Snyder spent countless hours with the L.B. in the federal prison trying to understand the environment L.B. was raised in, discussed any trauma she may have experienced, and make accounting of her good works. Ms. Snyder gathered dozens of letters of support as well as character witnesses to address to the court on L.B.’s behalf. After aggressive negotiations, the Assistant U.S. Attorneys dropped the seven-year mandatory sentence. Ms. Snyder was also able to negotiate the charges down to civil unrest. The court was so moved by Ms. Snyder’s arguments, that L.B. was released shortly after sentencing.
